IN THE FORMER UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Within a matter of months, nearly half of the people in the US were forced to flee a bitter winter amidst outbreaks of a deadly disease and biological threats in the northern states. Survivors pressed southward on trains and buses, or even on foot—bringing only what they could carry. Forced to pass through mandatory quarantine camps, they arrived in the South only to be crammed into makeshift shelters and crumbling inner cities.

One corporate empire controls international media, technology, and A NEW FORM OF CLEAN ENERGY. The CEO proposes a shift from global devastation to an entirely new way of life. At the foundation of this plan is the requirement to sign the Notice of Allegiance, an oath to forsake loyalty to all the boundaries and religions of the past. Going forward, there will be one, cashless economy and one means of identification for all. In order to preserve a now-fragile Earth, strict conservation measures will be enforced—including observance of specific Zero Population Zones.

Millions of survivors weigh their options as a massive ad campaign declares all of the elements are finally in place to end Martial Law and leap into a future that will see Mother Earth restored, clean energy, seamless technology, and people dwelling in peace and safety.  Each person's journey to it is tied to a single decision: Sign the Notice of Allegiance, forsaking all loyalty to the boundaries and beliefs of the past.  As those who sign are lifted from crumbling slums and transitioned into new lives, opposition withers.  But a man known as Swordsman begins walking through the ruins, openly challenging the narrative of the new regime.  Growing throngs hear his call to consider the real cost of their choice as animated devices everywhere display a countdown of the time left till those who resist will lose all means of sustaining life.

Are all faiths one, or is there only one faith? Does the enforcement of this plan bring peace and safety, or does it create a growing, world-wide thirst for an ultimate savior?
